AMERICAN MOUNTAINS : Greenway
The Greenway is a 'park' in East London constructed on the embankment containing the Northern Outfall Sewer. After a full renovation in the mid-nineties, work has begun to resurface and renovate the site - now pertinently baring witness to developments of the Olympic Park and Crossrail project.
The name Greenway may suggest here (in the mannered language of regeneration and property development) a journey, a tour, an ideology, a colour, a banner, a fable (a yellow-brick road).
During the American Mountains residency a series of workshop days - 'Not Romania', 'Greenway' and 'We Fucked This Up' – will be organised and presented to the public. They will include talks, screenings and research activities; looking at topics such as tourism, regeneration of spaces, ecology and global capitalism. Material collected during the two weeks will be compiled into the publication 'American Mountains – Greenway'.
Participants and contributors include Matthew Breen, Dave Charlesworth, Jamie George, Sophie Hamacher, Adelita Husni-Bey, Rebecca Kressley, Maya Oppenheimer, Siôn Parkinson, Gemma Sharpe, Maria Theodoraki, Richard Whitby, Eleanor Wright, and more.
American Mountains is an artist’s project that has previously taken the form of exhibitions, websites, printed papers, performances and talks.
