For October’s Digbeth First Friday, we screened three films by Mathew Wayne Parkin, Sophie Hoyle, and Seo Hye Lee. ‘I can fit a fist in my mouth’, ‘Aphonia’, and ‘Portland Forecast’ were brought together as an exploration of the nuances of communication, thinking through how language is translated across the screen, as well as between people, landscapes and timeslips, from one subjectivity to another. Each film has integrated captioning and audio description.
This in conversation speaks to the integration of audio description and open captions within the three pieces of work, and the creative potentiality of access mediums when developing moving-image work.
This event was programmed in collaboration with Radar.
