Junction Works is our live capital project that is working to position and embed artists and our wider community, at the centre of the regeneration that is happening in Digbeth.

We firmly believe that a strong artistic community is an essential part of an inclusive city and that publicly accessible spaces dedicated to culture are crucial for both residents and visitors. After successfully raising £675,000 from Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, Public Artist Ltd, and Stoford Developments, Phase 1 Works were completed in 2022, providing four new offices for creative businesses.
In 2025, we officially secured the 150-year lease on Junction Works. By undertaking this project, Grand Union is disrupting the usual narrative of artists moving into cheap, unused warehouse space, only to be priced out a few years later as part of a wave of gentrification.

The building sits at the gateway to the Digbeth Branch Canal and Warwick Bar conservation area, opposite the BBC’s Tea Factory site which is due to open in 2027 and neighbour to Masterchef’s new studios. Securing a new, permanent home has unlocked the opportunity for us to refurbish the site and we are now perfectly placed to launch its £4m fundraising campaign to complete refurbishment of the building, aiming to fully open the doors by 2029.
The aim for this venue will be to co-create a lively community cultural facility that is open and accessible, welcoming all to experience art through experiencing gallery exhibitions, taking part in workshops and events, sharing food, and enjoying green space outdoors. We will transform this once derelict heritage building to include exhibition, meeting & events spaces, a community café, kitchen and garden, accessible artist studios, and a changing places toilet facility.
