We’re delighted to share that ‘Learning to Drive in Birmingham’ by Laisul Hoque, recently presented at Grand Union, will be screening at Birmingham School of Art, Margaret Street, B3 3BX, as part of student arts social Night School.

Created in partnership with Bow Arts following Hoque’s recognition as winner of the East London Art Prize, this newly commissioned film work follows Laisul, a Bangladeshi immigrant living in the UK, as he navigates Birmingham through driving lessons, car conversations, and phone calls home.

Presented by BCU research cluster Art Activisms, the 30-minute screening will be followed by an ‘in conversation’ event with Stuart Whipps, artist and Associate Professor in Photography at BCU, to discuss the city’s civic infrastructure and historic relationship with manufacturing and industry, weaving common threads in their respective practices.
