September Digbeth First Friday: ‘Learning to Drive in Birmingham’ by Laisul Hoque

4 September 20266–8pm

Join us for another late night opening of our current exhibition ‘Learning to Drive in Birmingham’ by artist Laisul Hoque, as part of monthly arts social Digbeth First Friday.

5-6pm: A quieter time to enjoy the exhibition, with less crowds and no bar. We kindly ask visitors to mask, and avoid wearing perfume during this time.

6-8pm: A full opening with a pay bar as part of the wider Digbeth First Friday event.

‘Learning to Drive in Birmingham’ provides a glimpse into the lives of Bangladeshi communities who have made Birmingham their home, offering sensitive and intimate understandings of the migrant experience as Laisul navigates a new city. Through archival footage and documentary film, Laisul examines how cultural exchange, labour and identity are interwoven into the fabrics of a place merging histories and cultures.

This work is supported by Arts Council England, Bow Arts East London Art Prize and Grand Union. With thanks to MJM Bespoke for fabrication and installation.

Exhibition Continues: 4 July – 3 October 2026, Wednesday, 2–5pm, and Thursday to Saturday, 12–5pm.
